the small touches that can transform your wedding

It’s one of the most memorable days of your life, so you will probably want it to stand out. The truth is, having a unique and impressive wedding doesn’t have to come at a huge extra cost – there are lots of smaller touches that will transform the overall look and feel of your wedding and ensure every guest goes home grinning.

    Photo booth

Why not set up a photo booth at your wedding reception? Recent years have seen the photo booth come back into fashion in a massive way, and no one can resist posing for their own unique set of instantly printed photo strips. This is a great way to appeal to everyone with your reception entertainment. Some people may not like dancing but they won’t be able to resist putting on some novelty glasses for a few snaps with friends and family.

    Creative lighting

You may not have given the lighting at your wedding a second thought, but it is key in setting the scene for your wedding and ensuring spectacular photographs. Light sources that give off a softer, warmer, more subtle glow are incredibly romantic and also very flattering – think candles and twinkly fairy lights. You could also really transform the atmosphere with colourful lighting effects and neon signs, which are all available for hire.

    Book a live band

Music plays such an important role in a wedding, from setting the scene as you walk down the aisle to getting the guests up on their feet during the reception. DJs have been the traditional choice for decades, with many believing that a live band comes with too much of an added cost, but this doesn’t have to be the case. If you would love live music for your big day and the option to hear unique covers of all your favourite songs, hire a band that is local to your wedding location – saving on hotel and travel costs.

    Choreographed first dance

Whether you are a dance floor pro or an absolute amateur, choreographed first dances are becoming an increasingly popular choice at weddings for brides and grooms. Maybe you love to dance and wish you had a chance to try out some new moves for such a special dance, or maybe you’re not a natural mover and don’t want your first dance to be a total shambles; a choreographed routine appeals to all abilities and is a modern twist on the first dance tradition.

    Create a social media hashtag

Social media has become a massive part of our lives, making it increasingly tough for wedding guests to keep their phones turned off throughout the day. Instead of worrying that people will be glued to their phones instead of enjoying the festivities, embrace it and give your wedding an official social media hashtag. Create a unique hashtag that no one else is using on social media and make sure your guests know about it, then you can encourage them to upload any pictures they take on the day using your unique wedding hashtag. Once the day is over you will have great fun scrolling through the hashtag and seeing all of the photographs of the day. Whichever small touches you decide to add to your wedding, they’ll add so much more to your big day – cementing its place as a day that neither you nor your guests will forget

  • 2020 Bridal Makeup Trends

  • 2020 Bridal Makeup Trends

2020 is the year of individuality. I have been in the wedding industry for a long time and it is evolving. This means brides are no longer pressured to find a style that is pigeon-holed into the ‘traditional’ or ‘boho’ category.

Brides are inclined to create a mood for their wedding instead of following a particular trend.

With that in mind I am finding more brides want to feel relaxed and create a beauty look which feels like them on a really good day… Actually on a really awesome day!

Here are my predictions for the bridal makeup trends in 2020

Heavy contour and insta brow trends are no longer in everyone’s favour and this look is now being replaced. Brows have a more natural feel where the eyebrows are sculpted into a fluffier more relaxed brow shape. AKA ‘The boy brow”.

    Skin

When it comes to foundation less is more, but this doesn’t mean naked skin! Let me break it down for you, the thinner the layers the longer the makeup will last. This applies to natural coverage AND full coverage foundations. A great option for this is airbrush foundation. This technique is also used for the sculpting, blush and highlight. Airbrush lasts so well because its (normally) silicone based, and the layers are so fine it really gives the illusion of a natural yet flawless complexion. Winning!!

beauty portraits by lucy jayne makeup artist

Watercolour blushes and cream highlighters give an etherial feel and turn flat matt skin into the complexion of a goddess.

    Eyes

Bridal eyeshadow trends are now starting to resemble a beautiful wash of colour with brides choosing rose gold and other gorgeous jewel tones. To add extra emphasis to the eyes, run brown kohl run along lash line and blend it out into the outer lashes. This cleverly enhances the eyes and eyelashes. With the addition of individual lashes applied on the outside lashes it creates the perfect eye look.

Eyebrows no longer have sharp edges and are groomed to add thickness and the gaps filled. Using a gel or soap sets the brows, and a pomade or brow pen adds fine hair strokes. This technique gives the effect of natural fluffy brows that frame the face perfectly!

2020 will be the year where individuality will be embraced, especially when it comes to makeup and creating the best version of YOU!

  • How to Maintain Bridal Beauty on your Special Day

  • How to Maintain Bridal Beauty on your Special Day

Planning your special day can take months, even years. From the very first save the date, to purchasing the final favours for your wedding guests. Most brides eat, sleep and breathe their wedding!

However, amongst the planning and organising, many brides forget to take care of what is most important, herself. Of course, the ritual facials, teeth whitening and excessive visits to the gym may in a bride’s eyes fall into the category of taking care of themselves. It isn’t until their special day they are able to sit back, relax and be pampered.

Therefore, to help you look flawless as you walk down the aisle, I have compiled together some top tips on how to maintain your bridal beauty all day long.

    Plan a Consultation

Meeting your make-up artist for a consultation 6-8 weeks before your wedding is a perfect way to try out different styles and looks. A style you may have been fond of on a celebrity might not looks so great on us as we all have individual beauty that needs can be highlighted in a variety of different ways. Therefore your consultation is all about finding out what is best for you and enhancing YOUR natural beauty. I recommend wearing your makeup for the rest of the day so you know how it lasts. If there is anything you notice (you needed more blush by the end of the day or skin was shiny by the evening) I can adapt the products I used so it will be perfect for the wedding day.

    Timings

Always make sure you plan enough time with your make-up artist on your wedding day. Utilise the consultation and prepare timings for your wedding morning. I can appreciate how time slips away so plan to finish an hour before you need to get ready. This will allow time to get into your dress and have last minute photos without any rushing.

I allow 45 mins for each member of the bridal party and 60 minutes for the bride. I work my times around the hairstylist with will work on whoever is available. However it is preferable that the bride has her hair done before makeup. With larger bridal parties I will also allow time once the bride has been made up for final touch-ups and more lashings of lipstick.

    The essentials and touching up

During your consultation we will discuss the essentials you should invest in to maintain your beauty look all day long. This may be purchasing a lipstick or pressed powder to help keep a flawless finish all day long. Airbrush foundation should be enough to last the duration; on a hot summers day I can’t promise everyone will be completely shine free. A pressed powder or blotting sheet can be the one thing that keeps your makeup looking picture perfect, all day long.

To achieve a beautiful bridal makeup look that lasts, I leave each member of the bridal party with a little kit. You will receive a lipstick/lipgloss sample and applicator wand, blotting sheets and eyelash glue.

  • Clinique Super City Block BB Compact Review

  • I think I may have found the one!… Well the perfect BB Cream anyway; the Clinique Super City Block BB Cream! At the moment my makeup routine is super minimal due to my little lady needing my attention 24/7 so putting a bit of slap on has gone from a luxurious 10 minutes to two minutes, if I am lucky!! (With my lack of sleep I need all the help I can get). Anything that makes this part of my morning run a bit smoother whilst making me look like I’m less tired is worth trying!

The product that I am crushing on big time is the NEW Super City Block BB Cushion Compact SPF 50

The Super City Block BB Cushion Compact SPF 50 a multitasking formula that delivers high broad-spectrum SPF protection, instant hydration and buildable coverage. This breakthrough fluid makeup in a cushion compact provides longwearing, breathable coverage while rich antioxidants shield skin from environmental aggressors, all in one‐step.

Through innovative technology, a liquid BB cream is imbedded into a cushiony sponge, that is housed within an airtight engine that snaps into a portable compact. The applicator sponge in combination with the formula creates an unexpected cooling sensation that leaves skin ultra-refreshed and energised.

    The Details

    • Its airy formula adheres to skin for a seamless, perfected natural matte finish. Moderate buildable coverage that lasts for 8 hours.
    • All-physical, high‐level UVA/UVB sun protection. Paired with anti‐oxidants help to protect skin from harsh city life.
    • The applicator in combination with the innovative formula leaves skin with a refreshing, cooling feeling.
    • Provides sweat and humidity resistance while controlling oil and shine for hours.
    • Suitable for full-face application or on the go touch‐ups.
    • Available in 8 shades

    Clinique super city Bb review

They say that a BB cream is the only product you will need after you wash your face. This is the first time I have properly used a BB cream on a daily basis and I have to agree! I still use a moisturiser but this BB is a light to medium coverage that’s very build-able. Another plus point to this is that is covers my post pregnancy pigmentation across my forehead and top lip. Extra coverage is definitely needed here and the sponge is great for adding more product to the areas that need it.

There is no need for primer and the finish is really silky so my skin still looks like skin. So that’s high sun protection ✔️ no need for primer ✔️ and no powder ✔️✔️
It’s not completely perfect as its not as long lasting as I would hope but the compact is east to use and you can reapply as needed.

Here are the products I used to create my (very quick) every day makeup (all available from Fenwick):

    High Impact Mascara
Chubby Stick in 07 Super Strawberry

  • Kent Wedding Awards 2015

  • The Kent Wedding Awards 2015 was back in November, I wasn’t able to attend this year because I was at my last NCT class… and I don’t think I would have been able to stay awake past the sit down meal. Unfortunately last year I didn’t go either because I was on my mini-moon as I had just got married – Wow what a year its been!

I love to be part of events like this, chatting and networking with other wedding professionals that you don’t normally get to have a ‘proper’ chat with, because you are always zoned in working hard. I am the person that hates missing out but I was fine with it this year due to my sheer exhaustion of finishing up work and cooking this baby! Imagine my surprise when I sent out a text to friends that were attending, only to be told that my name had been called – I was the winner of the Wedding Beauty Award!!! I was over the moon and celebrated with a cup of tea and pack of biscuits (remember I am pregnant lol). Next year I will be making up for it!!

This year has been pretty hard, but work (not that it feels like work) has been a wonderful distraction to all of the other things going on in my life. Winning this award has made it a lovely end to this crazy year and I am looking forward to having a little rest… having our baby (apparently not going to be a rest) and then meeting lots of new brides in the new year!!

  • The 2016 Wedding Industry Awards

  • Getting recognition for doing something you absolutely adore is such a wonderful feeling! I was nominated by one of my brides for the 2016 Wedding Industry Awards a few months ago so I thought I would apply and see how far I could get! The awards for this area cover the whole of the South East (this includes London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent) so I knew the competition would be really tough being amongst some fab MUA’s. I couldn’t believe it but I was shortlisted as a Regional Finalist (thanks to my brides votes and kind words) so myself and my mum went to the awards ceramony to do some networking. Keeping everything crossed that I might win and not go into labour at the same time. Lol!

    wedding industry awards

Unfortunately I didn’t get to be a winner this year, but the ladies that did (I.D. Beauty/Sussex) were so good, it was well deserved.

    wedding industry awards regional finalist

So here is what it’s all about for me, when my name wasn’t called I didn’t feel sad – I was so excited. I knew that I would now be able to access my incredible testimonials that my brides had given me and I couldn’t wait!!

Here is what they thought about me and my service as a makeup artist on their special day. This is why I  love what I do!…

THANK YOU TO MY KIND AND BEAUTIFUL BRIDES xxx

    General Comments (in random order)

Lucy Jayne provided a brilliant service from start to finish. She did a fabulous job of both mine and my bridesmaids makeup on the big day. She was so friendly and really helped me at ease on the morning of the day. I would recommend her to anyone getting married.

    Mrs Felicity Candlish (Furness)

Lucy is such an easy person to talk to, when she came to do the make up trials we talked through what I wanted and when she had finished I didn’t want to change a thing! I’m not confident with make up so wear very little, Lucy didn’t go over the top and I felt so beautiful on my wedding day. Lucy was also patient with my mum who is very indecisive about what she wanted and my bridesmaids looked gorgeous. I felt so comfortable with Lucy and she was so knowledge about make up styles & products.

    Mrs Louise Hicks (Whiffin)

Lucy was patient and listened to my entire wedding themes and ideas before advising me on make up. She was knowledgable about different looks we could achieve and was willing to trial several options prior to the wedding day to be sure I was happy with my final decision and look. Lucy also helped me find my hair designer too which was another area that I was struggling with so all in all she made the wedding planning process fun and stress free.

    Mrs Laura Keeper (Williams)

Lovely Lady, really professional and calming 🙂 had such an amazing day and felt like a beautiful bride. One of my bridesmaids (sister in law – 16) never wore make up before but Lucy was very good with her and she looked stunning. Lucy asked lots of questions and was very keen to give me the exact look I wanted. Thank you Lucy, you really do deserve this x

    Mrs Katie Legg (Fleury)

Lucy was vital to the smooth running of my wedding. Calm and collected throughout. I had never had my makeup done by anyone else before my trial and was nervous about someone being able to do my makeup ‘the way I like it’ but lucy listened to the requests of me and my maids perfectly. My makeup stayed looking beautiful all evening, with no touch ups! Thankyou xx

    Mrs Jessica Wood

I spent a long time searching for a make up artist online. Lucy Jaynes website and make up artistry instantly appealed to me. Communication with Lucy was prompt and efficient. At my consultation she was patient and really understood the make up that I wanted on my wedding day. On the day, she was a huge calming influence and my makeup looked fabulous. Everyone commented how lovely it looked. It stayed on all day and looks fab in the photos.

    Mrs lea Tippett

Lucy completed a trial run of the wedding make up a few weeks before the big day, she took note of what i wanted (to not look completely different but enhance my dire makeup skills) after the trial she took pictures which i could look back on so i could change ideas before the day. For the day Lucy made subtle changes based on my thoughts from the trial and gave me h8nts and tips for make up i could wear every day. Very friendly and always professional

    Mrs Amy Hulks (Lucy)

I booked Lucy following recommendation from a friend. Lucy did my makeup as well as my mum and sister. We all have varying skin colours and types and different thoughts of how we wanted to look. Lucy listened to this and along with her advise we were all very pleased with the final outcome. Lucy also provided touch up amounts of makeup to keep us looking great through out the day. Lucy was patient in the mayhem and chaos & all in all very professional I have also recommended her to others since

    Anonymous

Lucy was amazing! She really listened to what myself and my bridesmaid wanted. I felt a million dollars and everyone commented! Her prices I felt were fair too. She used great products which lasted for entire day/night. I never needed to re apply anything. You can tell how much passion she has for her work and clearly it reflects in how happy I was on the day! Highly recommend and will always want to book Lucy in the future when I need to feel AMAZING!

    Mrs Charlotte Woollett (fennings)

Lucy is a true artist in every form and this is why…. -Lucy is a skilled makeup artist who created the look I wanted using suitable colors and textures for my skin type. -Lucy emphasized all my best features. -She complimented the style of my gown, hairstyle, and the color of my bouquet. -She understands camera techniques, which is key to any bride as photographing well is important on your big day.

    Mrs Hannah Crow

I don’t normally wear makeup so her guidance on a look I wasn’t sure I was looking for was excellent. I wore fake eyelashes which I’d never worn before and they were applied so well I didn’t know they were there and they looked amazing. I felt comfortable and at ease in her company. Overall she done a fantastic job and made my day extra special.

    Mrs Ceri Donovan

Lucy was an amazing make-up artist. She was prompt and very professional. Myself, my mum and all 3 bridesmaid were soooo happy and impressed with our make-up which stayed on all day without the need to touch the make-up up. Highly recommended.

    Mrs Lucy Bird

I am not someone that has a lot of confidence in their looks and really struggle with makeup. I was really worried I would have a make-up artist who made me feel silly or pick up my flaws. But Lucy was the most amazing find. Her laid-back but professional, kind, warm and friendly nature put me completely at ease. She picked out my best features, face mapped my face, was onhand at all times to provide advice and order extra products. She gives me faith in the make-up industry.

    Mrs Katy Bryant (Silvester)

Lucy was amazing! Her work is amazing, and she is very professional, I would recommend her to everyone, and I will Carry on using her for when I need my makeup doing 🙂

    Mrs Juliette Davis (Aldridge)

Lucy was amazing from start to finish! I had been let down last minute by another artist and LucyJayne did everything she could to accommodate me. The make up trial put me at ease and Lucy took my brief and confidently and bought it to life. On the day, having my make up done was one of the best bits of the day! Lucy was very accommodating and even paused whilst we had a very late breakfast. My make up was even better on the day and was flawless until I took it off. One word…excellent!

    Mrs Abigail Cooper (Fox)

I was so impressed by Lucy, She is so professional and I felt in very safe hands. I had not had my makeup done previously so was a little anxious, but Lucy’s lovely friendly and calm nature quickly put me at ease. I have oily skin and I still can’t get over the fact that I did not get shiny, my makeup looked as good at 1am as it did when it was first done. My mum and sister also had their makeup done by Lucy and I have never seen them look so beautiful. I will recommend her to all of my friends!

    Mrs sophie southgate

Lucy Jayne did a great job on the day – fitting around hairdressing issues, which in turn made her schedule change but she was very accommodating. The makeup itself on the day was great and stayed put all day. Many people commented on how they liked it as it was very natural. Lucy Jayne is very friendly and makes you feel at ease… Made getting ready an experience in itself. Would high recommend.

    Mrs Laura Nichols (Andrews)

Lucy was a god send. so professional and put me at ease on my wedding day. i couldn’t thank her enough. my make up was so natural and she knew exactly what i was after. it looked as perfect at the end of a very busy day as it did when i said i do to my now wonderful husband. so a big thank you Lucy your a star.

    Mrs Jackie Hooper (Carter)

I would recommend Lucy Jayne to any brides seeking a talented make up artist who will put them at ease on the day. She isn’t pushy or a big character – just very friendly, personable and adaptable. I wasn’t very good at explaining what I wanted at my trial, and so came away with a look that I wasn’t sure about. However, I communicated these concerns to Lucy who wasn’t offended, and was able to adapt my look on the day to create exactly what I wanted. My make up lasted all day and was perfect.

    Anonymous

Lucy had such creativity and flair and understood the look ideas going for right from our first meeting. She was fun to be around, had a great relationship with myself and my wedding party and really helped to make my day even more special. I would recommend her to anybody!

    Mrs Sarah Watson (Stanton)

Lucy was an absolute pleasure to work with and be around. She took the time to listen and try out new things in consultation, she made it so exciting for me. She took my vision and took it to the next level, and the end result was beautiful. It was far better than I could have imagined, and stood out in the photos. Lucy was extremely professional at all times. She clearly loves what she does and it is infectious! She worked so well with my hair stylist so that everything worked perfectly.

    Mrs Kristy Davies (Harkett)

From the moment I met Lucy, I knew I had made the right choice in having my make up done professionally for the big day. She was so friendly and kind and made me feel so comfortable. I had eczema around my eyes during the trial and Lucy gave advice on products I should be using, luckily this had cleared up in time for the big day. She also gave a helping hand in helping me get into my dress! The make up was beautiful and I got so many compliments throughout the day, I really did feel amazing!

    Mrs Liza Blissett (Hackney)

Lucy Jane did a great job with the make up. I heard nothing but compliments from my family and guests. She managed to make me look good but still like myself.

    Dr Susanne Schroeder

From initial contact right through to the wedding, Lucy was extremely friendly and professional. I changed my mind slightly on the day from what we went for at the trial and Lucy was so accommodating of this. She was definitely a calming presence on the day! Lucy covered problem areas on my skin flawlessly, she does incredible eye make up and It lasted all day, I absolutely loved it. She also created beautiful make up looks for my bridesmaids which they loved. A very talented make up artist!

    Mrs Yasmin Ward (East)

Lucy was lovely from the first time she arrived at my house for a trial to the moment she she left me on my wedding day after completely the most beautiful make up for myself, my bridesmaids and my mum. She was professional and understood exactly the look I wanted and the style of the wedding we were having. She helped us choose the right tones for for the day and everyone looked perfect.

    Mrs Kerry Yeomans

Lucy was amazing and so professional, when I conveyed to her the changes I wanted after the trial, she understood completely and did my makeup exactly how I wanted it. I’m so glad I booked with Lucy =D

    Mrs Sarah Liu

Lucy Jayne was our stand-out supplier! She was warm, friendly and professional at all times and completely out us at ease. I had total confidence in her throughout and really enjoyed my time with her at the trial and on our wedding day. The makeup was flawless and individual and looked immaculate all day and night. Lucy Jayne perfectly interpreted our preferences into something that really suited each of us. Versatile, enthusiastic, great value for money. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

    Mrs Emily Brushett

Lucy is an exceptionally talented make up artist. She was able to guide me on the look that would suit my face and transformed my look in a beautiful and subtle way. I would recommend her to any bride wanting to look absolutely perfect on their wedding day. Lucy was approachable and extremely patient, exactly what you want as a bride. I have had so many comments on how beautiful my make up was on the day and it lasted the whole day looking as good in the evening as it did in the afternoon.

    Mrs Fions Vail (Solly)

Lucy was fantastic, she made me feel like a princess.

    Mrs Nikki Taylor-Price

Lucy’s artistry skills are obvious from reviewing her website. Her warm yet calm personality and flexible and passionate approach to her craft left me feeling very well looked after in the preparations and on my big day.

    Mrs Caroline Burton

Lucy was booked after my sister in law had her for her wedding. Her service is next to none. She is personable and has a real passion for her field. From day one Lucy understood my vision and was able to bring this to life. She didn’t once influence, merely used her expertise to deliver an extremely high standard service. Lucy worked very closely with my hair dresser to ensure the two elements complimented each other. She made me feel like a princess on my very special day. Thank you!

    Mrs Laura O’Leary (Tanner)

Lucy-Jayne is the best make up artist I have ever used, she is professional and very talented. She makes everybody feel at ease and is a true artist. Lucy-Jayne made me feel absolutely beautiful and I wish that she could do my makeup every single day

    Mrs Katy Herbert (Shroder)

Lucy was extremely helpful and put me at ease straight from the first time I met her. I don’t wear very much make up at all. So having my make up done for my wedding was extremely scary and daunting but important for me to look nice throughout the day. Lucy and I discussed that the natural look and gave me some options. I had my first trial and I loved the look. On my wedding day Lucy was punctual and made me feel very relaxed. My make up was fantastic. I loved everything about it.

    Mrs Joanne hosking (cox)

Lucy was amazing, she is so friendly I instantly felt at ease. It was amazing to be a princess for a day and Lucy was a huge part of that for me. My make up felt natural and all day people commented on how amazing it looked.

    Mrs Marie GODDEN

Lucy was just excellent, very professional over phone and email when I first booked her and regularly updated me with invoices and wedding day timings so I felt confident of her ability even before my trial. On both the trial and day of wedding she kept me calm, was very friendly and my makeup and my bridesmaids make up was wonderful. All of our make up lasted the whole day too and we particularly like having sample lipsticks to touch up during the day. I will definitely recommend Lucy.

    Mrs Annick Treslove

Lucy Jayne was very professional from the moment I contacted her about doing my wedding make up. I know how popular she is so I really hoped that she would be free to do my make up. She has a very strong work ethic & is extremely passionate about the industry and this portrays in her work which is of a very high standard. My consultation was great, lucy knew just the look I was looking for before I even knew what I wanted! She made me feel truly beautiful & a million dollars on my wedding day!

    Mrs Sophie Richardson (Sharratt)

Lucy Jayne was fabulous throughout. Before the wedding she made sure she understood exactly what I wanted and also took time with all my ladies to ensure likewise. She made us all feel so comfortable, even the shy ladies who were not used to using make up. My sister in law nearly cried when she saw how lovely she looked. On the day everyone said how stunning I looked which was amazing as I am 48 years old – Lucy’s make up lasted perfectly all day and I can’t thank her enough

I knew she was the right person to do my make up for my wedding after meeting her and seeing her work on Facebook.

Lucy’s website is very professional, and contained all the relevant information. and the photos of the bridal makeup on her website looked amazing.

    Mrs Sarah Liu

I was impressed by her website and her versatile portfolio of bridal looks. I follower her on Instagram which she regularly updated with pictures of her brides and advice which I thought was great. Her website was easy to use and well presented. Mrs Katie Legg (Fleury)

Prompt response to enquiry on website. Excellent quality of website and reasonable pricing.

    Mrs Hannah Ferris (Duke-Oddy)

Lucy was lovely and I felt instantly at ease with her. I felt I could say if I didn’t like something and she took any constructive critcism on the chin and adapted my make up to what I wanted without losing any integrity to her quality and skills. Lucy also worked well with my entire bridal party especially my sister who was my Maid of Honour and does not wear make up often if at all. Having recently recovered from breast cancer she was nervous about being so made up and actually loved her look so much on the wedding day it’s inspired her to renew her own wedding vows after 25 years of marriage. I would highly recommend Lucy to any friends and family looking for a make up artiest for any occasion.

    Mrs Laura Keeper (Williams)

For my wedding make-up. I seen her recommended by other people and was blown away with how professional and talented she is. I felt very lucky to have her.

From the moment I met Lucy I knew she was the make-up artist for me. She is so talented and I would recommend her highly to any bride.

    Mrs Hannah Crow

I have used Lucy before for my 30th Birthday and she was instantly my first choice when planning my wedding,

    Mrs Katy Herbert (Shroder)

Initially it was her lovely website with photos of previous brides. The consultation was fabulous and gave me confidence that she was the make up artist for me.

    Mrs lea Tippett

I saw Lucy’s website and blog and was impressed with her work. But above that, it was clear that she was creative and passionate about her work, and I wanted to try something different. I felt that Lucy would be the ideal person to collaborate with, to avoid having a standard wedding look. She did not disappoint and am so glad I booked Lucy Jayne.

    Mrs Kristy Davies (Harkett)

Lucy Jayne was recommended to me by the venue. In addition I thought her website was very accessible and professional-looking. She also outlines her prices on the website, so you know what to expect from the very beginning.

  • Ell and Cee Bridal Lingerie

  • My last fashion makeup job pre maternity leave was with my fave – Ell and Cee Bridal Lingerie, shooting for their Winter Luxe Collection. It’s always so much fun working with a lovely girly team so with the edition of one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever eaten, was a damn good day at the office! Saying that it might not have been the best thing to be working on when you are the size of a small house with a beautiful pixie-like model, casually frolicking in on a freshly made bed…

All I can say is thank god for the cake – I can worry about my post baby body goals another day lol!

I am lucky enough to work with this brand a lot and is my first recommendation when my brides are looking for something a bit special in the bridal lingerie department.

In fact I was adorned with beautiful Ell and Cee goodies on my wedding day last November and it made me feel so glamorous getting ready for my wedding prep. Here are a few piccies… Ah the memories!

    ell and cee garter
ell and cee bespoke silk knickers

    Back to the shoot…..

“Ell & Cee is a luxe British Lingerie & Lounge brand. The signature look is deliciously feminine with a modern bohemian edge. Garments are made from the finest silks and chiffons to ensure the best quality and are manufactured in the UK – with many of the garments hand finished in house. The more bridal inspired pieces will be launched early next year with lace up details, embellished bras and cut out knickers in soft Champagne and pale Ivory.”

    The No Makeup – Makeup

The feel of this shoot was paired back and relaxed. Coupled with the luxury of the room style and white washed walls of the location house it all fitted perfectly. Hair and makeup was completely minimal. That gorgeous, no makeup – makeup look! Of course there was makeup, not loads but applied in a way to give flawless glowing skin. Basically how we would all like to wake up in the morning… Lol!

Here is a before and after picture of the gorge model Laura, you can see how lovely and even her skin tone is with a lightweight foundation and highlighting. No heavy contouring here kids, just a subtle mix of lighter toned concealer blended with her foundation to ‘lift’ where the light would catch her face and a mix of cream highlighters on top to give that uber dewy feel.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow

  • Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Makeup Review

Here is my review on this beaut of a product! I am not one to follow the crowd, but here I make an exception! I have wasted so much money in the past on products that get rave reviews but don’t live up to the hype. After purchasing the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow I am now in love with this beautiful product.

Let me start with the packaging; Visually this product looks every bit as luxurious as you would hope for in a high end product. It is a shiny golden beacon and whenever I have a makeup savvy bride in my chair; I know she can’t wait for me to use it! I apply it on every face I makeup and it gives the perfect sculpted enhancement.

The bronzer ‘Sculpt’ side is highly pigmented which means a little product goes a long way. It can be used to softly sculpt the face or build it up for deeper bronzed look – depending on what finish the client requires.

The highlighter ‘Glow’ side has a delicate golden sheen, and is perfect for creating a luminous sun-kissed highlight. This highlighter catches the light perfectly and it really does makes the skin glow in a pretty and youthful way. I am pleased that it doesn’t create the harsh metallic sparkle that some highlighters can have. Apply it anywhere the light might catch for a soft glow; the cuspids bow, brow bone, temples, cheek bones, collar bone, shoulders and sometimes the bridge or tip of the nose!.. This product is a perfect 10 and my new favourite!

Here are some of my recent bridal clients that have had the Filmstar Bronze and Glow treatment. They look ready for the Red Carpet!

  • My Bridal Style: The Gold Wedding Dress!!

  • My Bridal Style! The gold wedding dress:

From the very start I knew that my dress would have to have some sort of sequin embellishment. Until we viewed our venue we was planning a summer wedding, potentially in Spain (quite the contrast to our actual wedding) but my dad was quite poorly so we knew doing it abroad wasn’t an option. This was totally fine because as soon as we had the tour of our wedding venue we fell in love with how cool it was and we knew we would be silly to do it in the summer as the whole charm of The Bell Inn (eclectic country pub) would be more suited to a winter setting with the log fires and candles burning… And a few hundred fairy lights thrown in!!

I imagine that had it been on a beach in Spain I would have opted for a floaty boho dress but it was winter and the my style is a bit more glam so the dresses I was drawn to were Sarah Seven and Ellie Saab – so quite fitted but floaty and a lot of sequin embellishment!! This sort of style was quite hard to come by unless you are a chic American bride on Pinterest, apparently!

Luckily I met Charlotte of Wilden Bride London at a bridal photoshoot last summer and we had a chat about my dress ideas. When I left I started to think about it and realised I wouldn’t be able to find this imaginary wedding dress I had dreamt up, so I got in touch with Charlotte and the creation of the gold sequin dress started there!…

Wedding Dress inspirationThe design process was lovely, Charlotte and I shared inspiration on secret Pinterest boards and she sketched different style dresses with all of the elements I wanted. It had to be gold with a low back and a1920s spin, so from her designs I picked what I liked and she got designing.

The dress fitting was a real treat and something I really looked forward to. Getting the bridal troops together, traveling to charlottes pretty little studio and of course seeing the process step by step with my bridal party was very special. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous but I just had to ‘go with it’ and when I went for that final fitting it was just bloody perfect!

    Wedding dress

The way I see it (and this is what I tell all of my brides) it’s the one day where you will be THIS glamorous, if you are going to do it you might as well go for it!! My fiancé didn’t expect a gold wedding dress (who would?) and he loved it!…

  • My Bridal Style: My Wedding Hair

  • My Bridal Style: My wedding hair!

I had my wedding hair stylist Vicki Lord sorted from before I was engaged, not only do I work with her all of the time but she was also at my surprise engagement party as she is a great friend! I know just how clever Vicki is and the thought and design process that goes into all of her brides hair styles has me in awe. This was the bit I was most calm about as I knew I was in good hands!

We didn’t have my hair trial until two weeks before the wedding. I was able to bring my dress and do my makeup so I could see the whole look together. I had ideas of how I might like my hair and in my mind I thought that a more casual hair style would be better suited because the dress was so glam. In reality only glam would do!
Vicki had an inspiration image that I had also picked (great minds think alike) in one of my secret Pinterest boards and was the inspiration behind having lace in my hair. I hadn’t ever seen it on a ‘real life’ bride and loved how it gave the hair look a touch of elegance. I mentioned this to Chatlotte at one of my early dress fitting and she had given me some pretty gold beaded lace that complimented my dress and Vicki dressed my hair around it.

    My wedding hair inspiration

The trial was great, as expected. Vicki sketched my dress and her ideas of the hair design, we chatted about the hair that would suit the dress and my face shape/bone structure. I was happy for her to just go for it and to trust the professional! It was certainly elaborate and so beautiful, I really loved it but felt I needed to see a slightly less ‘big’ hair-do for my own piece of mind. I felt a bit panicky and that the big hair and big gold dress might be too much?… Of course it wasn’t and this was a bit of a waste of time, but I needed to be sure.

  • My Bridal Style: My Wedding Makeup

  • My Bridal Style: My wedding makeup

I always knew I would do my own makeup, my main worry was my skin but thank goodness it was looking good on the day – hallelujah! I enjoy doing my own makeup and it’s my profession so I felt pretty casual about it… This was until I had to actually do it on the day!!
I was fine doing my mums and maid of honors makeup and it even helped me zone out a bit, but when it came to doing mine my nerves really got to me. I felt quite panicky when I should have been calm and sadly it felt like a bit of an endurance, I just wanted it over and done with so I could focus on having fun with my bridal party. I was really happy with how my makeup looked but I could have done without the stress of having to to it ha-ha! The moral of the story folks is to book a professional, the wedding prep is such a fun time and you should be as chilled and calm as can be, the last thing you want to stress about is your makeup!

As soon as I started having my dress designed I began gathering inspiration images of different makeup looks on Pinterest, it went from natural, vintage to glam. I think on the wedding day I did play it a little bit safe with my makeup, after the bold lipstick and massive kitten flick eyeliner I am comfortable wearing when I get glammed up – ultimately I just wanted to look flawless and of course timeless!

    wedding makeup inspiration

My makeup inspiration (and major girl crushes!)

I designed my makeup to compliment my glamorous bridal look, and not compete with the bold elements of it. As I was able to see everything together at my hair trial I made a few changes to my makeup as it was just too natural. I went bolder on the eyes and brighter pink lips (of course!) I had a change of heart with my eyelash choice. The strip lashes I chose at my trial were nice, but I knew if I was going to panic on the day it would be when I applied these bad boys! I went for a more practical choice of party lashes (individuals lashes with a much stronger glue) that I applied a couple of days before and they still looked great on the wedding day.

    lucy jayne makeup

    My makeup trial!

Another thing that I had a hard time deciding was if I should wear my glasses?? I was debating right up until the wedding day. I am comfortable in my specs but they are bold and a little quirky so I felt that contact lenses were the way to go. Getting used to contacts is a whole other story but I’m very happy with my decision. I thought that in photos I would look strange (or not like me) without my glasses, but maybe where I am so used to wearing them I was letting them define how I should look… When all that matters is that I look happy in my photos. And I did.

I was very happy with my makeup look, and even into the evening after the first dance and serious partying my photos showed that my makeup was still flawless (if not a tad sweaty from all of the dancing).

When it came to my mum and maid of honours makeup we didn’t get chance to do a trial but as I had put there makeup on for loads of different occasions so they were more than happy for me to do it on the day. I kept the glam theme with everyone. Mum was wearing a (silvery toned) mink and black jumpsuit so to compliment it we went smokey grey eyeshadow with individual lashes and shimmery lipgloss.

My maid of honour Mel, was wearing a full length black dress and is very comfortable with bold eyes and a heavy strip lash, so I made sure her eyes were uber smokey with a bit of gold sparkle. Her lashes were really plush: Esqido’s Lashlorette Lashlucy jayne wedding makeup Benjamin Toms wedding photography lucy jayne wedding makeup Benjamin Toms wedding photography Lucy & Simon-138
Here is my step by step on how I created my bridal makeup.

Skin: I used Simple moisturiser and a bit of MAC Oil Control Lotion on my t-zone. To even out and smooth my skin (I have quite a few deep pores) I used Smashbox primer Photo Finish. As with all brides I needed my foundation to be long wearing so I used my personal favorite Estée Lauder Doublewear and Mac Pro Longwear concealer. I set my base with MAC Prep+Prime Translucent Finishing Powder.

To give me a little more colour I combined a soft beige bronzer by Illamasqua and added a pop if pink blush to my cheeks in MAC Dollymix and highlighted my cheekbone and brow bone with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle.

Eyes: The best way to keep eyeshadow put is to use an eye primer. I used MAC Paint pot in Painterly. I buffed in a shimmery taupe cream shadow into my eyelid and to create this I mixed a little MAC Vintage Selection with Groundwork. To create the smokey effect I blended in N17 Peep Show Palette (discontinued) and over the top of my crease and under my lower lash line MAC Bronze eyeshadow in Antiqued. To open my eyes up I dabbed a little MAC Vanilla Pigment into the inner corners of my eye and to add to the smudgy smokey look I smudged in Maybelline’s Lasting Drama Black/Gold Cream Eyeliner and blended that out to the socked and this added to a ‘soft cat-eye’ flick.

I used L’Oreal Waterproof Mascara over the top of my Party Lashes that I applied a few days prior. I cried a lot and it didn’t budge!

Eyebrows: I like them to look quite natural so I tinted them prior to the day and used MAC Fling Eyebrow Pencil to give them more definition and set them with a Sculpting blonde Brow Gel by Maybelline.

To give me a little more colour I combined a soft beige bronzer by Illamasqua and added a pop if pink blush to my cheeks in MAC Dollymix and highlighted my cheekbone and brow bone with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle

Lips: I am a big pink lip fan, so I went for a soft pink tone in MAC Lovelorn with a brighter MAC Pink Poodle lip gloss on top!

To finish and hold everything in place I spritzed myself and my bridal party with MAC Fix + finishing spray.
